Our proposal was formally introduced at the Central Accomodation Team (CAT) meeting this morning by Superintendent Karen Grose. Feedback so far as been great – everyone thought the proposal was well-written and pedagogically sound. They have some internal questions they need to resolve and we’ll be back on the agenda for the next CAT meeting in November. Now we just sit and wait…
The last couple of months have been hectic, with our entire executive committee (and our advisory committee) working hard to put together a solid proposal for the TDSB. We officially submitted our proposal on Sept 30. You can read it here. Welcome to the blog of Vista Alternative School, a proposed alternative public school within the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).
Vista Alternative School is based on the understanding that the child is a respected and valuable member of society, who actively contributes to the community and to their own education. The teacher is a guide who supports the child in continuing to develop the mind, the body and the spirit, never forgetting that these three components of the human being are equally important.
Our mission is to develop well-rounded, responsible and self-actualized individuals, who are able to make informed and wise decisions and actively participate in society.
Our outreach efforts have shown that there is a demand in the parent community for a Montessori-inspired school and we believe our school will benefit not just the immediate community, but the TDSB community as a whole.
